BPI doubles down on Aleph Alpha
Growth capital empowering sovereign AI solutions
Burda Principal Investments (BPI) has increased its investment in German AI leader Aleph Alpha. BPI first invested in the company in 2023 as part of its Series-B financing round, to support Aleph Alpha’s product development and international expansion. For this very purpose, we also hosted the company in Asia this summer to bridge our networks and showcase their potential the region. Our latest investment reaffirms BPI’s confidence in Aleph Alpha’s mission and highlights its commitment to globally driving transformative technology and innovation.
Aleph Alpha, established in 2019 in Heidelberg, is at the forefront of developing transparent and trustworthy AI applications for B2B and B2G sectors. With a fully sovereign technology stack, the company empowers organisations to navigate complex, regulated environments such as finance and public administration. Its pioneering product, Creance.ai, is a generative AI tool tailored to compliance challenges in the financial sector, marking a new standard for AI in regulated industries.
Strengthening partnerships and scaling innovation
Alongside BPI, existing investors Schwarz Group and Earlybird VC have also increased their stake in Aleph Alpha as part of this secondary transaction, demonstrating confidence from the company’s key stakeholders. The addition of Deutsche Bank as both a prominent institutional investor and commercial business partner further validates Aleph Alpha’s robust business model and unique verticalisation strategy.
“As an international growth capital investor, we are closely monitoring the development of AI worldwide. We are convinced that Europe has the potential to become much stronger in this area! Aleph Alpha delivers first-class sovereign AI applications. The company has shown sustainable growth in a competitive market with a stable and forward-looking business model. As a partner of Aleph Alpha, we are thrilled to continue driving this work forward together with Jonas Andrulis and his team, also in regions beyond Europe such as Southeast Asia.”
Christian Teichmann, CEO of Burda Principal Investments
“After the announcement of the PhariaAI Platform and launch of the creance.ai Joint Venture with PWC, the addition of Deutsche Bank as a new investor and strategic partner is yet another great milestone for Aleph Alpha in the 12 months after our initial investment. It continues to be a pleasure to working with Jonas and the entire Aleph Alpha team and we are more than happy to reaffirm our commitment.”
Friedrich von Wulffen, Principal at Burda Principal Investments
Looking ahead
This transaction positions Aleph Alpha to continue to push new boundaries for European technological sovereignty, including but not limited to the financial sector. The company’s focus on high-impact, domain-adapted AI solutions ensures it remains a vital force in driving digital transformation across various industries. BPI is proud to strengthen its partnership with Aleph Alpha and remains dedicated to supporting their continued growth and innovation in the years ahead.
